Tax season just got easier — right inside the Rain App

Rain offers free, in-app federal and state tax filing. Employees can file taxes in the same place they manage their income. No extra apps. No fees.

“I love filing my annual tax returns,” said no one ever.

Tax season is one of the most stressful financial moments of the year for employees.

Filing taxes is complicated. The process is full of unfamiliar forms, confusing terminology and uncertainty about whether everything is being done correctly. On top of that, many people pay filing fees just to complete the process.

Rain believes employees deserve a simpler way to navigate tax season. That is why we offer free, in-app tax filing directly inside the Rain App.

Employees can file their federal and state taxes in the same place they already manage their income, track their earnings and plan their finances. No separate platform. No additional apps. No filing fees. No extra hassle.

It is another step toward Rain’s larger mission of helping employees build lasting financial health and stability.

Why tax filing belongs in the Rain App

Rain was built to help employees stabilize their income and manage cash flow between paydays. But financial health does not begin and end with access to earned wages.

Tax season plays a major role in an employee’s financial picture. For many households, a tax refund is the largest single payment they receive all year. At the same time, the filing process itself can be stressful, expensive and time consuming.

By bringing tax filing directly into the Rain App, employees can handle one of the most important financial tasks of the year in a familiar, secure environment.

Because Rain already captures verified payroll and employment data, the experience is simpler than traditional tax software. Employees do not have to start from scratch or manually re-enter information they’ve already provided.

The result is a faster, easier way to file.

How it works

Rain has partnered with April, a leading tax platform, to bring free federal and state tax filing directly inside the Rain app. Here's what the experience looks like for employees:

Get a head start with existing Rain data. Employees can import their name, email, job title and pay information already stored in Rain, so there's less to gather and enter manually.

File federal and state taxes in one place. Employees access April's platform directly inside the Rain App, complete their filing, and submit straight to the IRS. No switching apps, no extra accounts.

Track the refund from start to finish. Once the return is submitted, employees choose where they'd like their refund deposited and can monitor its status in-app. April maintains a direct IRS connection and handles the full submission and all customer support end-to-end.

The entire process happens inside the Rain experience.

Get a head start using existing Rain data

Rain already stores important employment and payroll information.

Employees can import key details such as their name, email, job title, and pay information that already exist in the Rain platform. This helps them start their filing process faster and reduces the need for manual data entry.

It also minimizes the friction and frustration that often comes with traditional tax preparation tools.

Submit and track refunds in one place

After completing their return, employees submit directly through April’s IRS connection.

Once submitted, employees can choose where their refund should be deposited. April manages the submission process and provides customer support end to end.

Employees can then track their refund status within the experience.

A different approach to financial health

Tax season highlights an important difference in how Rain approaches financial health.

Many earned wage access providers quietly worry about tax season. When employees receive tax refunds, they may rely less on early wage access for a period of time.

Rain chose a different path.

Instead of avoiding tax season, we built free tax filing into the app. Even though it may temporarily reduce transaction activity, it aligns with Rain’s core mission.

Financial health means helping employees build resilience and stability. Sometimes that means helping people reach a point where they rely on Rain less, not designing systems that create long-term dependency.

Supporting the full financial health journey

Rain is committed to helping employees navigate every stage of their financial lives, not just the moments between paychecks. Offering free tax filing is one more way Rain supports the full financial health journey.

From earned wage access to income stability tools and free tax filing, Rain continues to expand the ways employees can manage their money with confidence.

Because financial health is not just about access. It is about empowerment, transparency and giving employees the tools they need to move forward.
